1. How do you come up with all the technology in these books?
Most of the technology is based on tech we have in the real world, or that scientists are currently working on. When I first realized I was about to start writing science fiction for the first time, I went to the library and checked out a big stack of Scientific American magazine, and I started poring through the articles, trying to get ideas for what cool tech I could include in my books. I realized very quickly that there is nothing I can come up with that scientists aren't already working on - it's amazing what we're capable of! For anyone interested, I have some information on my web site about the technology in the books that is based on real life: http://www.marissameyer.com/extras/writing-playlists/
2. Which part of Cinder/Scarlet did you enjoy writing the most?
I always enjoy writing the romantic scenes the most, especially as I have a tendency to keep my couples separated for as long as possible, so that when they finally do have a chance to be together - even if just briefly! - it feels like a big breath of fresh air. Readers are not the only ones who think "Finally!" So pretty much any kissing scene is loads of fun for me to write.
3. One word to describe Kai and Cinder's relationship, Scarlet and Wolf relationship, Iko, Thorne, and Levanna.
Interesting question! Let's see....
Kai + Cinder's relationship: mutual admiration (okay that's 2 words, sorry!)
Scarlet and Wolf: passionate
Iko: wishful
Thorne: debonair
Levana: determined

4. What is your favorite sports team?
The Tacoma Rainiers! They're our local Triple-A baseball team and I've been going to their games since I was a kid. It's a great way to spend a summer afternoon. (That said, I did recently get to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a Wichita Wingnuts game, so they're contenders for my favorite team now, too!)
5. If you were to bring the fictional characters from Cinder/Scarlet to life, who would you bring?
Hm, I know lots of my female readers would like me to bring Kai or Thorne or Wolf to life (swoon!), but I would probably go with Peony, Cinder's younger stepsister. She deserves a life much better than she was stuck with in the series.
